In 1998, Bombardier Aerospace selected North Bay as the location for the final assembly operations of its Canadair 415 firefighting aircraft. Officials said that North Bay was the final choice because it has good quality facilities, availability of quality human resources through Canadore College's School of Aviation, and has specialized suppliers.
